The Group relies heavily on donations from individuals to raise funds. The restoration of GWR 216 has cost at least £15,000 to date and the majority of these monies have been raised through individual donations. It is estimated that another £10,000 will be required to complete the coach.
Beyond this the Group will need further funds to progress the restorations of Taff Vale Railway 145 and Great Western Railway 793, and the maintenance of GWR 3846.
To protect the coaches it is necessary to have suitable infrastructure, such as maintenance and storage sheds, support vehicles, paint, tools and materials all of which also cost money. The Group may use funds for other purposes occasionally, such as the hire of a suitable locomotive to run with our coaches. Why should I support the Gwili vintage carriage group?
If you have ever been to the Gwili Railway you may have been fortunate to have enjoyed a ride in Taff Vale 220/GWR 3846. It represents part of a time now beyond living memory and gives an insight into social and engineering practice in the late 19th century.
It is our aim to provide a whole 19th /early 20th Century train for passengers to enjoy, a rare experience and unique to Wales, a country with strong historical links to the development of the railways.
Through the work that we do we educate not only the public but also our own volunteers in the methods used to restore and maintain these vehicles.
The Group is a Registered Charity, No 1115945 This allows the Group to gain access to Charitable monies and tax relief schemes. How do I make a donation?
